The interview of Dr Robin Nunkoo, Associate Professor in the Department of Management and the Head of the International Center for Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality at the University of Mauritius, was published in News on Sunday of 13 September 2018. His views make an interesting read.
Here is an excerpt of his interview: “At the destination level, sustainability remains the biggest challenge for tourism development. Environmental sustainability and social sustainability is vital for the long-term well-being of our tourism sector. The government faces the challenge of ensuring sustainability in the process of economic growth.”
The debate is open!
sustainable tourism….mmmmhhhh. How can tourism be ever sustainable when it is totally dependent on oil for air transport, oil being a finite and non-renewable fuel, by the way.
Tourism’s fate is tied to oil issues in an inextricable manner.
